Mob-Numbers

Alongside Feldpostnummern, the German Wehrmacht also used so-called Mob-Numbers (mobilization numbers): secret code numbers that concealed the exact deployment location or the cover designation of a military unit in wartime. They were mainly used on secret identity tags (Erkennungsmarken).

According to the source on which this list is based, the original Mob-Lists were partly copied from poorly legible sources and contain occasional gaps in the number sequence. This is inherent to the original sources and not an error in our processing.

The list below may therefore be incomplete. In addition, the original list regularly used a quotation mark (“) to indicate that part of the unit name is identical to that of the preceding Mob-Number. For a number of rows we were able to fill this in, but this was not possible with certainty in every case. If a ” still appears in the “Unit” column, please check the Mob-Number above it to determine which part of the name is meant.
